The United States views the framework of six-party talks as the only avenue to negotiate the issue of denuclearizing North Korea, says a senior visiting U.S. official in ruling out the option of direct bilateral talks for that purpose. "The purpose of (any) bilateral contacts is for the North Koreans to hear directly from us our perspective on these things, not for the purpose of having a bilateral negotiation," U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg told The Asahi Shimbun on Thursday.
